The Watertown Senior Center was a new building constructed to physically link to the gymnasium of an existing school building. The gymnasium, used for exercise classes and line dancing, is an integral part of the senior center.
The new single story clapboard building was designed to relate to its adjacent residential area. A series of lightwells, which define the main circulation through the building, provide an abundance of natural light and adds to the drama of the cathedral ceiling spaces. A large multi-purpose room was designed with an operable wall to subdivide the space for flexibility of uses.
The Watertown Senior Center building is a successful addition to the Town of Watertown, used not only by the Seniors during the day, but also by various community groups in the evening.
